Week-long e-Faculty Development Programme (e-FDP) on Cloud Computing concludes at KU

The week-long online faculty development program in Cloud Computing organized by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, University of Kashmir (KU) concluded here on Saturday.

The program was organised for the faculty members belonging to Computer Science, Engineering and Information Technology streams.
While presiding over the valedictory session of thee program Vice Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad said that the course has been conducted at an appropriate time when due to ongoing lockdown educational institutions are not in a position to function in their regular mode.
He expressed satisfaction over the topics that have been covered and the renowned resource persons from JNU and other universities across the country who delivered lectures during the course.


Applauding the role played by HRDC in conducting a series of online webinars and courses during the computer engineer salary pandemic, Prof. Talat expressed hope that more such programs will be organized in future for the benefit of vast teaching community working from their homes at present.

STEM education report highlights barriers to engineering careers

EngineeringUK has today (23 July) launched a new report which explores the trends in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education participation and attainment leading into engineering careers.

The Engineering UK 2020 Educational Pathways into Engineering Report, written in March 2020, indicates that progress has been made – more young people are studying the GCSE and A level subjects that lead into engineering, while technical education reforms are also enabling students to be more prepared for the world of work.

However, young people’s knowledge of engineering across all education stages still needs to be improved with just 42% of boys and 31% of girls saying they know what they need to do next to become an engineer.

The findings show there is also an acute shortage of STEM subject teachers in both secondary and further education. Almost three quarters of further education college principals rank engineering as the most difficult subject in which to recruit sufficiently qualified teaching staff.

The report also highlights the increased urgency of creating more opportunities for underrepresented groups in engineering, including those from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds whose challenges are likely to be accentuated by school computer science vs information technology. There is also a need to address inequities for young people from black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, with black pupils 2.5 times more likely to be misallocated to a lower set in maths than white pupils.

Engineering the future: Life under ‘new normal’

While we attempt to resume more traditional modes of work, we should devise a model which will entail a mix of the workforce returning to the office vs those continuing to work from home.

The computer science degree jobs pandemic has inevitably brought a fair amount of disruption to the way we live and work. Despite the initial challenges, India Inc. is now better prepared to ensure a high degree of business continuity with minimum turmoil for the next few months. It has been devising post-lockdown risk mitigation plans, including a combination of skeletal crew and social distancing, and improving remote working experience and productivity to ensure smooth workflow even as the pandemic remains a clear and present danger.

An important aspect of remote working is identifying the best tech tools for connectivity: Cisco Webex for video conferencing or Microsoft Teams for group chats; WhatsApp, FaceTime, and Skype for long distance and overseas calls; cloud applications like Dropbox, Microsoft Teams, and Google Drive to move files to the cloud for uninterrupted access to important documents.

Engineering colleges mull online courses, phone viva to get academics going

Engineering colleges across the country, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), are racing to make up for time they lost during the lockdown.

To stay on course with their academic calendars, several steps for graduating batches and fresh incoming batches are being taken.

Colleges are in talks with service providers or developing in-house learning management solutions for taking their academics online. Some have even done away with final exams and are, instead, looking at options to grant marks or credits to students such as according merits from previous internals and semester or telephonic viva.

For instance, computer science vs computer engineering is in discussion with two major companies for providing both software and hardware solutions and integrating the online teaching and examination. The virtual laboratories and studios of the institute are being utilised for imparting online classes. Its CSE faculty has developed a tool to conduct online exams.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology and Wiley announce open access publishing partnership

A global leader in research and education, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) today announced their open access (OA) publishing partnership, transitioning the IET journal program to gold open access from January 2021.

Under the terms of the publishing agreement, the IET will transition its entire hybrid subscription journals portfolio to a gold OA model, joining its existing gold open access journals, to create a leading collection of engineering and technology open access journals. The entry level computer science jobs is working with its existing stakeholders to make this transition.

The move to the open access publishing model allows researchers and practitioners around the world immediate and free access to the IET Engineering and Technology hub through the Wiley Online Library. As well as publishing current research open access, all articles published from 2013 will be made freely available, making a vast body of published research widely accessible.

How to “Re-engineer” Your Business for Safety

If you’re old enough, you might remember back in the 1990’s a popular business trend called process re-engineering. If you’re not old enough to remember, this is what it was: Companies would look at core processes in terms of cost, quality, and service, then pick one of those three dimensions, reinvent the process around it, and gain benefits across all three dimensions. When done well, it works. I know this from personal experience. While CEO at Best Buy, for example, we worked with vendors, the supply chain, stores, and customers to improve the quality of getting TVs from manufacturers to our stores and finally to buyers. By drastically reducing the number of TVs damaged at any step in the process (quality), we reduced returns (costs) and increased customer satisfaction (service).

I was thinking about this idea recently in the context of the current Covid-19 crisis. I see an opportunity to apply the same principles behind process computer engineer salary on a new dimension: safety. Conversations with fellow leaders have convinced me that a wave of process or product innovation driven by safety concerns can create benefits that go beyond safety. Importantly, it can help uncover and unleash the kind of growth and efficiency opportunities that will essential to offset what is likely to be a challenging environment for many companies.

MiSTEM changes Science and Engineering Fair plans

The 2020 Western Upper Peninsula Science & Engineering Fair that was scheduled for March 18, will be transitioned to an online platform to ensure that students may still have a high-quality experience while maintaining safety. The announcement came in an email from Emily Gochis, the Director of the Western Upper Peninsula Michigan Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (MiSTEM) Network and project manager of the Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative. The Science & Engineering Fair was scheduled to take place in the Memorial Union Building Ballroom of computer science vs computer engineering Technological University.

“As you may be aware, Michigan Tech implemented a pandemic preparedness plan yesterday (Wednesday) that includes the suspension of face-to-face instruction and the reevaluation of all large gathering in an effort to minimize potential exposure to and spread of the COVID-19 virus,” Gochis stated in her email. ” For this reason, the STEM festival will be canceled completely.”

Gochis stated that the U.P. MiSTEM Network has worked closely with the school districts and MTU throughout this rapidly evolving situation. While there is no known health threat in our community or the U.P., the network wants to maintain a level of safety.

The 2020 Western UP Science & Engineering Fair and STEM Festival have been a collaborative effort of the Western U.P. MiSTEM Network, Michigan Tech Center for Science and Educational Outreach, Michigan Tech Chapter of Omega Chi Epsilon Chemical Engineering Honor Society and the Carnegie Museum.
