UGC NET Computer Science Syllabus 2020: Check Paper-2 Chapter-wise Detailed Syllabus with Latest UGC NET 2020 Exam Pattern

OIA issues decision to restructure telecom and information technology

Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has announced the restructuring of companies operating in telecommunication and information technology sector, and dissolution of the boards of some companies and reduction of the number of board members in other companies.

The decision includes Oman Broadband Company, computer science vs information technology, Satellite Communications Technology Company and Oman Towers Company.

OIA said in a statement, "The decision aims to develop the performance of the companies, raising their efficiency and enabling them to be effective players in the state economy."

"The Authority decided to reduce the number of boards of directors of subsidiaries of the group, as well as reduce the number of members of their boards of directors and unify the support services for companies to increase their effectiveness and reduce operating expenses," OIA added in the statement.

Week-long e-Faculty Development Programme (e-FDP) on Cloud Computing concludes at KU

The week-long online faculty development program in Cloud Computing organized by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, University of Kashmir (KU) concluded here on Saturday.

The program was organised for the faculty members belonging to Computer Science, Engineering and Information Technology streams.
While presiding over the valedictory session of thee program Vice Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad said that the course has been conducted at an appropriate time when due to ongoing lockdown educational institutions are not in a position to function in their regular mode.
He expressed satisfaction over the topics that have been covered and the renowned resource persons from JNU and other universities across the country who delivered lectures during the course.


Applauding the role played by HRDC in conducting a series of online webinars and courses during the computer engineer salary pandemic, Prof. Talat expressed hope that more such programs will be organized in future for the benefit of vast teaching community working from their homes at present.

STEM education report highlights barriers to engineering careers

EngineeringUK has today (23 July) launched a new report which explores the trends in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education participation and attainment leading into engineering careers.

The Engineering UK 2020 Educational Pathways into Engineering Report, written in March 2020, indicates that progress has been made – more young people are studying the GCSE and A level subjects that lead into engineering, while technical education reforms are also enabling students to be more prepared for the world of work.

However, young people’s knowledge of engineering across all education stages still needs to be improved with just 42% of boys and 31% of girls saying they know what they need to do next to become an engineer.

The findings show there is also an acute shortage of STEM subject teachers in both secondary and further education. Almost three quarters of further education college principals rank engineering as the most difficult subject in which to recruit sufficiently qualified teaching staff.

The report also highlights the increased urgency of creating more opportunities for underrepresented groups in engineering, including those from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds whose challenges are likely to be accentuated by school computer science vs information technology. There is also a need to address inequities for young people from black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, with black pupils 2.5 times more likely to be misallocated to a lower set in maths than white pupils.

IBM Posts Gains as Customers Accelerate Shift to Cloud

International Business Machines (IBM) beat estimates for second-quarter profit on Monday and signalled that demand in its cloud computing business would get a boost as large corporations accelerate their digital shift due to the coronavirus crisis.

The company's shares rose 5 percent in after-hours trading.

IBM has jettisoned some of its legacy business to focus on the high-margin cloud computing business, an area that has seen a lot of action in recent years as companies ramp up their digital shift to boost efficiency.

"The trend we see in the market is clear. Clients want to modernise apps, move more workloads to the cloud and automate IT tasks," IBM's new boss Arvind Krishna said on a post-earnings call with analysts.

Revenue from the cloud business, previously headed by Krishna, rose 30 percent to $6.3 billion (roughly Rs. 47,000 crores) in the second quarter.

Krishna took over as chief executive officer from computer engineering salary, while appointing former Bank of America Corp's top technology executive, Howard Boville, as the new head of the cloud business.

Robot-related services powered by cloud computing to soar - research

Robot-related services powered by cloud computing will reach US$157.8 billion in annual revenue by 2030, according to new figures released by ABI Research.

The analyst firm says despite being only in its nascent stages, the value of cloud infrastructure to robots is key for both deployment (encompassing development, configuration, and instalment) and operation (maintenance, analytics, and control).

Redress engineering community issues: MEGA appeals government

The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical engineering Graduates Association (MEGA) on Thursday appealed the government of union territory (J&K) to redress the pending issues of engineering community in general and mechanical in particular.

In a statement MEGA said, “It is unfortunate that the mechanical being old important wing of engineering has been always being ignored as far as the expansion, cadre review and issue redressal is concerned.” It further added that mechanical engineers are always in high demand in every department or sector in UT of J&K. But unfortunately the wing has been neglected and no expansion or cadre review has been initiated from last four decades, it said.

Three Bay County schools are accepted into Amazon computer science program

As schools prepare to reopen in the fall,  three bay county schools are also planning to add a new computer science program to their curriculum.

It is called the ‘Amazon Future Engineer Program’ and these schools are some of the few to have it around the country. Tech wizards at Deane Bozeman, Bay and Rutherford High Schools are getting excited for this new computer science program.

“It’s teaching computer fundamentals so students can leave high school and get higher paying jobs or head into college with a background in the stem field under their belt,” said Ivan Beach, principal at Deane Bozeman.

The Amazon Future Engineers program in partnership with entry level computer science jobs will sponsor a more in depth program for students to learn coding and programming. “There’s been limited schools nationwide but we’re excited because we know anything they touch generally turns out to be amazing,” said Beach.

This will be the first program of its kind here at Bozeman High School. The principal says they have computer science classes but none at the advanced level.

“So far the students we were able to be in contact with are really excited about this,” said Beach. “Especially the ones who are thinking about gaming or programming or computer science or computer engineering as a career.” Over at Rutherford High School they already have a day schedule for computer science classes. Principal Coy Pilson says he hopes the appeal of this program will get more students interested in joining the classes.

Engineering Student Interns for SpaceX During Historic Launch

A University of Arkansas student had the opportunity of a lifetime this summer working alongside SpaceX engineers during the company's first crewed flight. Electrical engineering senior Allison Rucker said interning with the SpaceX avionics team during the NASA's SpaceX Demo-2 mission is a dream come true.

"SpaceX is a leader in space technology, and it's an honor to be able to help achieve a goal that I support, "she said. The NASA SpaceX Demo-2 mission is the company's first flight carrying a crew, and it's the second flight of the Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station.

Rucker watched the May 30 launch live from the computer science vs engineering corporate headquarters in Hawthorne, California.

The setting was different because of the pandemic but she said the air was filled with excitement. "Normally they all gather around the mission control to watch the launch, but that was not allowed for this launch," she said. But that didn't stop the celebration — once the spacecraft launched, the entire floor broke out into cheers, she said.

"The excitement was like nothing else. Not only had people worked hard to make Demo-2 a success, but it was a huge step in getting to Mars," Rucker said. At SpaceX, Rucker mostly focuses on analyzing failed parts. Her goal is to figure out where the problem occurred. 

"Most of the failures come in after a part has done environmental testing," she said.

Rucker also works on a device to help the printed circuit board, also known as PCBs, communicate more effectively. The team Rucker's a part of at SpaceX works on the avionics components that went on Falcon 9, Dragon, Crew Dragon and Starship. Rucker said she's found mentorship at every turn in the company.

Meet Delhi’s engineering students who powered plasma donor app with AIIMS doc

Though there is no breakthrough in developing a vaccine for Covid-19 yet, the youngsters of the country are leaving no stone unturned to back India’s brave fight against the pandemic. Meet engineering students Tushar Chaudhary, Kaashika Prajaapat, and Tanay Aggarwal, who have collaborated with Dr Abhinav Singh Verma from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Together they have successfully developed the COPAL-19 app, which will help build a plasma donor bank to speed up recovery of Covid-19 patients.

Prajaapat, a fourth year Computer Science and Engineering undergraduate at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Delhi, says, “I had been creating a Medical Facility Tracker that could help people locate things like the nearest hospital for treatment against jobs with computer science degree, the number of beds available in that hospital etc. I was working on this with my friend Tanay, a student of Maharaja Surajmal Institute Of Technology (affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University). When we launched the tracker, a lot of people came to us to discuss about what other problems can be solved though mobile apps. And one of the issues we found pertinent was the lack of routing between plasma donors and Covid-19 patients.

Uber plans to shift engineering jobs to India to cut costs

US-based ride-hailing firm Uber is planning to cut costs by shifting engineering jobs to India, a report in The Information website has said.

The news comes a few days after the company laid off more than 600 employees in the country as the coronavirus pandemic hit the business. During his first visit to India in 2018, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the company's plans to boost its engineering presence, which has been reiterated on several occasions by the company.

The sudden departure of Uber’s chief technology officer Thuan Pham, who resisted Khosrowshahi’s push to move jobs to India, has revived the CEO’s efforts, the report said, citing two employees of the firm.

Pham, who left in May, had on an earlier occasion told computer science vs software engineering that if he wanted to go ahead with the plan, he could have to do to so with a different CTO, the report said. According to the report, Pham said hiring more engineers in India would mean accepting lower-quality candidates.

Uber didn't immediately respond to Moneycontrol’s email seeking its comments.

In 2018, Uber's tech team grew by 150 percent and the plan was to double it 2019, Apurva Dalal, head of engineering, Uber India, had said. The company, at that time, was believed to have more than 500 engineers in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Line Engineering, admission to 109 Govt Arts and Science Colleges in TN could be through online counselling

The Higher Education Department already proposed this idea last year but because they had to face many challenges like the abundance of courses, lack of hostel facilities, they could not start work.

With the Corona-induced what to do with a computer science degree, exams, admissions, counselling, classes have all been postponed and everyday there are newer technologies, plans and ideas that people are coming up with in order to cope with these issues. Now, with the admissions to Arts and Science colleges also being pushed behind, students wanting to apply to 109 government colleges might have to ready themselves for online single window admission. Albeit, this is only a trial. 

However, the Higher Education Department already proposed this idea last year but because they had to face many challenges like the abundance of courses, lack of hostel facilities, they could not start work on the project. But since the COVID-19 situation, the Department has decided to do a trial run in 109 colleges in 2020-2021.

What's being done to get more women in engineering?

More must be done to encourage women to take up and stay in engineering, according to some of the East Midlands’ leading female voices in the profession.

Representatives from Pick Everard, BE Design, Curtins, Dice Consult, and Thissen Consulting shared their experiences during an online discussion hosted by Notts-based Cartwright Communications as part of International Women in Engineering Day.

The group fielded questions on the importance of early intervention and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) mentoring, as well as their thoughts on the current imbalance between the numbers of men and women in the industry.

According to Engineering UK, just 12 per cent of engineers in the UK are women with just 25 per cent of girls aged 16-18 considering pursuing a career in the industry.

Natalie Clemson, director of the highways and infrastructure team within Leicester-based Pick computer science major jobs civil engineering division, said: “The traditional role of women in the workplace is changing a lot, and the industry itself has become much more active in promoting itself to women and girls.

“A diverse workplace is what is needed, and women bring a certain skill set that perhaps wasn’t as prevalent before.
