7 Ways To Keep Going In Your Job Search

If you’ve been looking for a new job during the pandemic, you know how hard it’s been. Putting yourself out there for networking, mining for opportunities and interviewing are never easy. But during these times, you deserve even more credit for the hard work you’re doing.

How do you keep your spirits up and stay positive? How do you maintain optimism and ensure you keep trudging forward? How do you maintain resilience when things feel so uncertain?

The answer lies in both your perspective and your practices. Here are a few suggestions to keep in mind.

First, mindset makes a big difference.

Be real. Some pop-psychological advice recommends you keep a positive attitude at all costs. But taking this Pollyanna approach—where you deny your negative feelings—can backfire. Instead, give yourself permission to struggle and acknowledge how difficult things are. In a scientific study, volunteers who were trying to make lifestyle changes, and who were provided with validation for their tough journeys, made positive change more effectively than those fed only computer engineer vs computer science, you-can-do-it type messages. If you’re not struggling during tough times, you may be deluding yourself. Give yourself permission to be less than chirpy or constantly content.

Advanced wireless broadband network with converged WAN, LAN and centralized cloud management enables remote learning, work-from-home

The city of McAllen, Texas is deploying a shared spectrum CBRS wireless network with technology from private network pioneer Federated Wireless and Cambium Networks (NASDAQ: CMBM), a leading global provider of wireless networking solutions. The network gives the entire community of McAllen, Texas -- including more than 23,000 K-12 students in the independent school district -- access to internet connectivity.

“Our main challenge was in our low-income and underserved neighborhoods who were going to be slow to receive cable TV, broadband or what is the difference between computer science and computer engineering,” said McAllen Mayor Jim Darling. “That made it impossible for kids to go to school remotely, or for parents to get training or work from home. They were going to fast food restaurants or city parks for connectivity, and that was not always feasible nor a long-term solution. This network gives us a permanent solution for all of our neighborhoods. Every child, parent and senior citizen who needs connectivity now has it. When you look at McAllen, we’re now not only a ‘Connected City,’ we’re a digital leader.”

McAllen is part of Hidalgo County, which borders Mexico in the southern tip of the state. The city of approximately 140,000 people has been especially hard-hit by COVID-19, with more than 3,500 people, or 2.5% of the population, having been infected. This compares to a national average of 1.6%.

Fiverr adds that office closures, restructures, and an accelerated computer science or computer engineering of ‘the future of work’ that businesses are facing challenges such as blending people and technology and protecting the health and wellbeing of employees.

“The pandemic has forced companies everywhere to rethink best practices for hiring, and this means focusing on a full-time team supporting their core competencies while integrating freelance talent as a way to easily scale,” adds Fiverr CEO Micha Kaufman.

While the pandemic will eventually subside, remote work and freelance talent on demand are both here to stay, Fiverr states.

With that in mind, Fiverr says it wanted to create an integration that could fit into an organisation’s workflow and become ‘part of the digital onboarding experience’ for employees, meaning freelancers can access email, Slack, Dropbox, and the Fiverr Business team account.

A Wave of Online Students Is Clogging Up the Internet

Many schools are beginning classes online this year in an effort to slow the spread of Covid-19, but some are finding that the internet isn’t up for the task. They have reported internet slow-downs, server errors, website crashes, and internet service providers that appear to struggle with the load of hundreds or thousands of students simultaneously showing up, virtually, for class.

The digital infrastructure schools rely upon was not built with online courses in mind, and there are a myriad of potential bottlenecks and problems that can cause these types of failures.

The first is a problem close to home. Though it might seem like you’re connected directly to the internet, it filters through a series of switches and routers on the way there. Think of it like driving on a city street before merging onto a highway, where you can go full speed. One of these “small city streets” joins an entire neighborhood’s users together onto the “highway” of the internet provider’s network. This point goes by many names: a computer science vs information technology for DSL users, CMTS for cable subscribers, or OLT for those with a fiber connection. Generally, this looks like a small cabinet on the street. An ultra-fast connection comes from an ISP’s actual network, to this cabinet, for distribution to customers’ homes and businesses.

OPM Moves to Allow Agencies to Appoint Some Employees Into 10-Year Temporary Jobs

The Trump administration is looking to allow agencies to hire employees in certain positions on a temporary basis for up to 10 years, more than doubling the current cap limiting the assignments for those workers.

The Office of Personnel Management issued a proposed rule on Monday that would enable federal agencies to appoint employees in STEM jobs, or positions on temporary or new projects or organizations, for a decade. how much do computer engineers make said the change would give agencies more flexibility when tackling long-term science, technology, engineering and mathematics projects and other non-permanent work. Current regulations require agencies to get special permission from OPM to keep any term employee on staff for longer than four years.

The rule would make federal jobs more attractive for STEM professionals only interested in joining government on a project-by-project basis “to build their resumes,” OPM said, assisting in bringing on those with specialized knowledge and skills. STEM projects in government often last longer than four years, with OPM citing as examples medical research, data analysis and the development of new technologies.

“OPM believes this flexibility promotes retention and continuity, workforce planning, and minimizes disruptions during project work,” the agency said in the rule.

How China winning the race to install 5G will be good for the world

Nina Xiang is the founder of China Money Network, a media platform tracking China's venture and tech sectors. It seems nothing can stop China from winning the global race to install 5G telecommunications technology. Not government bans, nor the debilitating COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite these grave challenges, when it comes to how much do computer engineers make is actually extending its lead while other countries are plagued by delays.By the end of July, China's 5G users had already surpassed 88 million, accounting for over 80% of users worldwide -- far ahead of the previously projected 70% share for the whole of 2020. By the end of this year, the number of 5G base stations in China is expected to reach nearly one million, by far the biggest tally globally.

And despite the U.S. cutting off the supply of crucial mobile chips, China's Huawei Technologies remains the top filer of standard-essential 5G patents, with the telecommunications giant set to remain a top global supplier of 5G equipment.

Can Farming and Wildlife Coexist?

Recent biodiversity decline can be partially attributed to agricultural causes, but a new film from Jon Bowermaster profiles local efforts to improve the ecology of farming.

Farming is ever-evolving: especially true here in the Hudson Valley these days, where farms big and small are booming, and many are experimenting with new ways.

Today, when we think about what’s to come next for farmers, a key question is: “How do we produce food, ensure that farmers can make a living, while at the same time respecting the needs of other organisms that share the land?”

For the past four years, the Applied computer engineer vs computer science Ecology Research Collaborative program, based at the Hudson Valley Farm Hub in Hurley, has deployed a team of scientists and researchers to monitor soil, water, and wildlife to discover how—to prove?—that farming and wildlife can coexist.

My film company, Oceans 8 Films, spent six months in 2019 observing and monitoring the research done by the collaborative team, which represents a sizable swath of Hudson Valley scientists and farmers, from Hawthorne Valley, Bard College, SUNY New Paltz, Hudsonia, and the Hudson Valley Farm Hub. Our short film is called, simply, “Farmscape Ecology,” and it’s the latest in our Hudson River Stories series. The film profiles the various partners as they dig into how changes in everything from where you plant native flowers and how many insects are collected to the moisture and microbiology of the soil can impact crop growth.

Digital technology a lifeline for small business

From retailers and restaurants to government agencies, digital technology has provided the lifeline between them and the people they serve, and has been a key strategy for enabling contactless and COVID-free interactions.

According to Chris Duckett, Editor of ZDNet Australia and TechRepublic Australia at CBS Interactive, the digitisation of the Australian economy has accelerated to a pace where in just six months it achieved what might have otherwise taken a handful of years.

"You are seeing businesses have to have a delivery strategy if they need to get goods to customers," Duckett said. "If you are in a work environment or an office environment, you have to have a remote work policy these days. And many people have probably had in the last few months their first difference between computer engineering and computer science consultation.

"These sorts of things are really embedding themselves in the way businesses are operating in Australia at the moment, and it is going to be interesting to see how many of them stick."This trend in Australia is being echoed in other parts of the world. The US-based Editor in Chief of ZDNet and Editorial Director at TechRepublic Larry Dignan said one of the biggest changes in the US business landscape has been the adoption of digital payments, which has in turn provided a huge boost to technology suppliers such as Square and Shopify.
